Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending August 21

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending August 21, 2021 dropped to 2,217 from the week ending August 14, 2021 total of 2,332. For a comparison, during the week ending August 22, 2020, 12,529 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,547 from the previous week’s average of 2,773.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending August 21, 2021 decreased to 37,315 from the week ending August 14, 2021 total of 40,433. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 250,720 for the week ending August 22, 2020.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 42,243 from the previous week’s average of 44,163.
