Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending July 24

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending July 24, 2021 dropped to 3,122 from the week ending July 17, 2021 total of 5,492. For a comparison, during the week ending July 25, 2020, 18,511 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 4,349 from the previous week’s average of 4,600.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending July 24, 2021 decreased to 44,996 from the week ending July 17, 2021 total of 48,045. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 324,357 for the week ending July 25, 2020.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 48,061 from the previous week’s average of 49,103.
