Initial unemployment insurance claims rise for week ending July 3

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending July 3, 2021 rose to 4,222 from the week ending June 26, 2021 total of 4,129. For a comparison, during the week ending July 4, 2020, 31,417 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 4,468 from the previous week’s average of 4,805.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending July 3, 2021 increased to 49,973 from the week ending June 26, 2021 total of 49,163. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 313,157 for the week ending July 4, 2020.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 49,499 from the previous week’s average of 49,515.
