Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending June 19

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending June 19, 2021 dropped to 4,278 from the week ending June 12, 2021 total of 5,242. For a comparison, during the week ending June 20, 2020, 19,524 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 5,166 from the previous week’s average of 5,590.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending June 19, 2021 increased to 49,503 from the week ending June 12, 2021 total of 49,355. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 300,389 for the week ending June 20, 2020.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 49,145 from the previous week’s average of 49,527.
