Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending June 12

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending June 12, 2021 dropped to 5,242 from the week ending June 5, 2021 total of 5,569. For a comparison, during the week ending June 13, 2020, 23,122 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 5,590 from the previous week’s average of 5,861.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending June 12, 2021 decreased to 49,355 from the week ending June 5, 2021 total of 50,040. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 306,358 for the week ending June 13, 2020.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 49,527 from the previous week’s average of 50,119.
