Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending Aug 11
BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Aug 11, 2018 dropped to 2,111 from the previous week’s total of 2,204. For a comparison, during the week ending Aug 12, 2017, 2,725 initial claims were filed.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,171 from the previous week’s average of 2,275.
The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending Aug 11, 2018 decreased to 18,811 from the previous week’s total of 19,594. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 22,406 for the week ending Aug 12, 2017.
The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 19,208 from the previous week’s average of 19,246.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission is committed to providing opportunities for Louisiana residents that will increase their chances of finding a family sustaining career. On Tuesday, August 21, an Interviewing Skills Workshop will be held at the East Baton Rouge American Job Center from 10 – 11 a.m. There is no cost for the workshop, and all are welcome to attend.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) has countless tools both in person and online to help claimants file and process their claims. This is in addition to the agency’s 62 local offices statewide, job fairs, training programs, apprenticeship opportunities and numerous other services.
Updates to the LWC’s unemployment information processing system are still being implemented. As a result, the following data are not currently available: the break-out of interstate claims, Louisiana unemployment insurance claimants' parish of residence and unemployment insurance claims by industry.
