BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending July 14, 2018 rose to 2,525 from the previous week’s total of 2,325. For a comparison, during the week ending July 15, 2017, 2,939 initial claims were filed.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,308 from the previous week’s average of 2,312.
The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending July 14, 2018 increased to 18,963 from the previous week’s total of 18,587. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 23,329 for the week ending July 15, 2017.
The four-week moving average of continued claims increased to 18,851 from the previous week’s average of 18,686.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) works to help all Louisiana residents get back on their feet, regardless of what happened in their past. The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DOC) has received official approval from the State Apprenticeship Council to establish a welder-fitter Registered Apprenticeship Program at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. The first program of its kind in Louisiana, it is part of an overall effort to better prepare offenders for careers upon re-entry.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) has countless tools both in person and online to help claimants file and process their claims. This is in addition to the agency’s 62 local offices statewide, job fairs, training programs, apprenticeship opportunities and numerous other services.
Updates to the LWC’s unemployment information processing system are still being implemented. As a result, the following data are not currently available: the break-out of interstate claims, Louisiana unemployment insurance claimants' parish of residence and unemployment insurance claims by industry.
