LWC among local organizations launching new healthcare partnership

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), in partnership with several business and community organizations, is launching a new healthcare collaboration in Lafourche, Assumption and Terrebonne parishes.

The Region 3 – Lafourche, Assumption and Terrebonne (LAT) Healthcare Sector Partnership will highlight opportunities for regional growth, stability and networking, and will focus on methods for developing a highly-skilled workforce.

The partnership is chaired by Christy Hockaday, CEO of Assumption Community Hospital; and Chad Matthews, President of Bayou Chapter of Medical Managers. Support partners include the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Terrebonne Economic Development Authority, LAT Workforce Development Board/Work Connection, Adult Education and Fletcher Technical Community College. Assumption Community Hospital is an affiliate of Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge and the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System.

“In today’s healthcare environment, collaboration comes in many forms,” said Christy Hockaday, Chief Executive Officer of Assumption Community Hospital. “I’m excited about the possibilities of bringing together diverse providers and deliverers of care with bright minds to discover opportunities for our parishes together. The outcome has great potential for the communities we serve.”

An introductory meeting will be held on March 8 from 1-3 p.m. at Terrebonne Parish Library’s North Branch in Gray, La.

“We are pleased to forge additional partnerships in the healthcare arena,” said Ava Dejoie, LWC Executive Director. “This industry is among the state’s largest employers, so it is critical that we continue to invest in its development and sustainability.”

Shannon Joseph, Director of the LWC’s Office of Workforce Development, said, “Our team is excited to delve further into community healthcare collaborations, particularly in Region 3. We believe this partnership will yield new opportunities in education, training and employment, and we look forward to the successes that lie ahead.”
