BATON ROUGE – Students from the Ochsner Medical Assistant (MA) Training Program – River Parishes will receive certification this week during their graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 13, at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center in Luling, La.
The event marks the first class of graduates from the River Parishes branch of the program, which was formed last November through a partnership between Ochsner Health System and the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC).
It is an expansion of Ochsner’s successful MA N.O.W. Training Program that provides specialized training for unemployed and underemployed workers in the New Orleans area. The River Parishes branch services the same segment of the workforce in St. James, St. John and St. Charles parishes.
The 20-week program offers accelerated classroom and clinical instruction to students and is tuition-free. Since its inception, more than 100 graduates have completed the MA Training Program. Of the students set to graduate on Tuesday, two-thirds have already received job offers from Ochsner.
“As the need for certified clinicians continues to grow, so will the value of developing similar programs in our communities,” says LWC Executive Director Ava Dejoie. “We appreciate Ochsner’s commitment to investing in local talent and marvel at the bright futures that lie ahead for these graduates.”
