Local Veteran Employment Representatives work to provide veterans with employment services including intake, assessment, testing, job-search assistance, job referrals and placement. The LVER representatives maintain regular contact with employers, labor unions, training programs, and veterans' organizations in order to better advise veterans of opportunities for employment and training.

The LVER Program was first authorized under the original GI Bill, the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944. Since then, legislation has been enacted to increase benefits and entitlements for veterans.
