Unemployment Insurance > For Job Seekers
IMPORTANT MESSAGE(s)

On Tuesday, May 7, we will be making upgrades to our customer service phone system. As a result, the agency's toll-free number (1-866-783-5567), as well as telephone-based customer services, will be unavailable from 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, to 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 8. We apologize for any inconvenience.

CHANGES TO LOGIN, PASSWORD ACCESS: Effective Monday, March 11, 2013, all claims for unemployment benefits (including Emergency Unemployment Compensation) made online will be done through our new HiRE system. HiRE will replace the Louisiana Virtual One Stop system. The same login that you use to access online job services from Louisiana Virtual One Stop now will be used to access unemployment services, such as:

  • Filing a new claim
  • Re-opening an existing claim
  • Filing a claim for weekly benefits
  • Printing your 1099-G information

You will no longer use your SSN and PIN to file online for weekly benefits. Learn more.

All local telephone numbers for the "Easy Call System" have been deactivated. To file for weekly Unemployment Insurance benefits from a telephone or if you have questions concerning your Unemployment Insurance claim and need to speak with us, please call the "Easy Call System" at the toll free number 1-866-783-5567.
LWC has implemented an online tool to assist the unemployed in gathering information on the total possible number of weeks they may collect UI benefits, based on their initial claim filing date. Click here to use the benefit duration estimator.
Benefits changing for Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) claims
The total number of weeks you can claim federally funded Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) will change, effective April 13. These changes are determined by federal guidelines based on our state’s unemployment rate. How these changes affect you depend on what EUC tier you are currently in:
  • If you have established EUC Tier 2 or exhaust EUC Tier 1 on or before April 13, you will be allowed to receive the rest of the Tier 2 benefits, as long as you remain eligible.
  • If you are in Tier 1 EUC after April 13, you will not be eligible for Tier 2, even if you are still unemployed.
