Susan W. “Suzy” Sonnier is the Office of Unemployment Insurance Administration Director for the Louisiana Workforce Commission. She previously served as deputy secretary of programs for the Department of Children and Family Services (formerly Department of Social Services).

In addition to her role as DCFS deputy secretary, Sonnier’s extensive public service experience includes serving as policy director for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals; coordinating the development of the statewide outreach campaign to support the implementation of the School Readiness Tax Credits while serving as a research instructor at the Institute of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health at the Tulane University School of Medicine; and directing the coordination of humanitarian efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita for the Louisiana Family Recovery Corps, where she served as a liaison to state and federal agencies, foundations, community-based non-profit organizations and faith-based organizations. From 2002 to 2006, Sonnier served as the Governor’s senior adviser on children’s policy.

Sonnier has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a master’s in public administration from Louisiana State University. She has begun graduate work at Tulane University’s Department of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
