An extension of the filing period for Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits is now in effect. No new benefits are provided by this recent legislation.
Currently, unemployed claimants in Louisiana could qualify for up to three tiers of extended benefits once they have exhausted their regular unemployment insurance (UI) benefits of a maximum 26 weeks:
- Tier 1: Up to 20 weeks of extended UI benefits after exhausting regular UI benefits
- Tier 2: Up to 14 weeks of extended benefits after exhausting regular UI and Tier 1 extended benefits
- Tier 3: Up to 13 weeks of extended benefits after exhausting regular UI, Tier 1 and Tier 2 extended benefits.
Individuals who have exhausted Tier 3 benefits are not eligible for any other EUC benefits. Those who have exhausted Tier 1 and Tier 2 benefits should continue to file weekly claims.
Benefits will be released as soon as programming is complete. Federal funds pay for the extended benefits.
