Unemployment Insurance Claims Report March 12, 2010

BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending March 6, 2010, decreased to 4,007 from the previous week’s total of 4,203. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending March 7, 2009, figure of 4,533.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 3,807 from the previous week’s average of 3,981.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending March 6, 2010, decreased to 59,933 from the previous week’s total of 60,484. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending March 7, 2009, figure of 40,737.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 60,924 from the previous week’s average of 61,609.
