BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending February 20, 2010, increased to 3,541 from the previous week’s total of 3,477. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending February 21, 2009, figure of 4,154.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 3,885 from the previous week’s average of 3,953.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending February 20, 2010, decreased to 61,152 from the previous week’s total of 62,128. The over-the-week decrease was spread among multiple industries. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending February 21, 2009, figure of 40,124.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 62,544 from the previous week’s average of 63,632.
