BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending September 26, 2009, decreased to 4,519 from the previous week’s total of 4,767. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending September 27, 2008, figure of 10,264, because the 2008 data reflected initial unemployment claims filed after Hurricane Gustav.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 4,717 from the previous week’s average of 4,677.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending September 26, 2009, decreased to 59,921 from the previous week’s total of 60,797. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending September 27, 2008, figure of 36,650.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 60,419 from the previous week’s average of 60,868.

This feature will print out a report with initial and continued claims for the current selection, prior week, and prior year. Weekly claims data can be accessed back to the week ending January 5, 2008. Begin on the LWC home page and select Labor Market Information (LMI). Scroll down the LMI page to the LMI Products section and select Unemployment Insurance (UI) Claims.
