Governor Jindal Announces Tim Barfield as Executive Counsel

BATON ROUGE – Today, Gov. Bobby Jindal announced that Tim Barfield will serve as his new Executive Counsel, chief lawyer and legal advisor to the Governor. Barfield currently serves as the Executive Director of the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC). Curt Eysink, currently the chief of staff and press secretary at the commission, will replace Barfield as executive director.

Gov. Jindal said, “Tim has done an incredible job revamping our workforce development programs and he brings a wealth of legal and business experience to the executive counsel position. We have a lot of work ahead of us as we continue to move our state forward, and Tim will be a great asset to our efforts to create a New Louisiana.”

In addition to his duties as Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Policy, Stephen Waguespack will continue to serve as acting Executive Counsel over the next few weeks until Barfield transitions from LWC to the Governor’s Office.

T.A. (Tim) Barfield, Jr. most recently served as Executive Director of the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Prior to that, Barfield served as President and Chief Operating Officer for The Shaw Group Inc., an engineering, technology, construction, environmental and industrial services company servicing federal agencies, federal, state and local governments, and private sector clients throughout the world. During Barfield’s tenure as president from 2003 to 2006, The Shaw Group’s revenues rose from $3.1 billion in 2003 to $4.8 billion in 2006. Barfield was responsible for all operations of the company, which includes approximately 22,000 employees within more than 180 locations.

Barfield previously served as the President of Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc. from 2002 to 2003, managing the integration and operations of the IT Group, Inc. and Stone & Webster Environmental to form Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc. From 2000 to 2002, he served as the Senior Vice President for Special Projects for the company, managing mergers and acquisitions and project development.

Barfield formerly served as President of Shaw APP, Inc. based out of Shreveport, and as the Secretary & General Counsel for the company from 1994 to 1999. He has also served as the Managing Director of Shaw Group U.K. Limited and as a corporate attorney at Vinson & Elkins, LLP in Dallas, Texas.

Barfield has a bachelor’s of science in business administration and a law degree from LSU. He is also a graduate of the Kellogg School of Management’s Executive Development Program at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Curt Eysink most recently served as the Chief of Staff and Press Secretary for the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Previously, he served as the director of marketing for Louisiana Health Care Review, Inc., a Baton Rouge-based healthcare improvement and medical management company serving federal and state clients. He was primarily responsible for all communications and business development and served on the company’s corporate leadership team.

Before that, Eysink was the city editor of The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge, with responsibility for local news coverage and the newspaper’s Washington, D.C. bureau. He also edited political and state government news coverage and, before that, worked as a reporter covering a number of areas, including education and local government.

Eysink graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.
