HOUMA – The Louisiana Workforce Commission will conduct orientation sessions and open a worker transition center to assist the 90 people who will be laid off on Aug. 7 from Offshore Specialty Fabricators in Houma.
The sessions will be Thursday, July 23, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Friday, July 24, at 9 a.m. at 115 Menard Road in Houma.
Orientation sessions are designed to inform affected employees about the services available to them through the LWC’s Rapid Response Unit.
An on-site worker transition center will be open on July 27 - 29, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Services to be provided include job placement assistance, job counseling, job search workshops, labor market information, résumé preparation assistance, interview preparation, online job search assistance, veterans’ assistance information, occupational retraining, trade adjustment assistance, debt counseling, out-of-area job search assistance, relocation assistance, on-the-job training, unemployment insurance and other supportive services as needed.
