Unemployment Insurance Claims Report

Initial claims for unemployment insurance increased to 5,367 for the week ending July 11, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 4,157. The increase was spread throughout several industry sectors. Initial claims were above the comparable week ending July 12, 2008, figure of 3,731.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 5,073 from the previous week’s average of 5,016.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed increased to 61,275 for the week ending July 11, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 59,551. The increase was spread throughout several industry sectors. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending July 12, 2008, figure of 25,935.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 59,435 from the previous week’s average of 58,269.
