Initial claims for unemployment insurance decreased to 4,157 for the week ending July 4, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 4,655. Initial claims were above the comparable week ending July 5, 2008, figure of 2,845.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 5,016 from the previous week’s average of 5,471.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed increased to 59,551 for the week ending July 4, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 59,504. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending July 5, 2008, figure of 24,849.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 58,269 from the previous week’s average of 57,096.
The third chart in the July 10, 2009, Unemployment Insurance Claims press release is for all regular unemployment insurance claimants who have received at least one check during the reference month in Louisiana. These claimants increased by 8,139 from 47,354 in May 2009 to 55,493 in June 2009.
