Initial claims for unemployment insurance decreased to 4,655 for the week ending June 27, 2009, when compared to the previous week’s total of 6,113. Initial claims were above the comparable week ending June 28, 2008, figure of 3,088.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 5,471 from the previous week’s average of 5,746.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed increased to 59,504 for the week ending June 27, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 57,408. The Transportation Equipment industry sector had the largest increase in continued claims for the week ending June 27, 2009. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending June 28, 2008, figure of 24,429.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 57,096 from the previous week’s average of 55,323.
