Initial claims for unemployment insurance increased to 6,113 for the week ending June 20, 2009, when compared to the previous week’s total of 5,139. The Transportation Equipment industry sector had the largest increase in initial claims for the week ending June 20, 2009. Initial claims were above the comparable week ending June 21, 2008, figure of 2,952.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 5,746 from the previous week’s average of 5,454.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed increased to 57,408 for the week ending June 20, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 56,614. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending June 21, 2008, figure of 23,853.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 55,323 from the previous week’s average of 53,690.
