Initial claims for unemployment insurance decreased to 5,139 for the week ending June 13, 2009, when compared to the previous week’s total of 5,978. Initial claims were above the comparable week ending June 14, 2008, figure of 3,177.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 5,454 from the previous week’s average of 5,283.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed increased to 56,614 for the week ending June 13, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 54,859. The Health Care and Social Assistance industry sector had the largest increase in continued claims for the week ending June 13, 2009. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending June 14, 2008, figure of 22,984.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 53,690 from the previous week’s average of 52,038.
