Initial claims for unemployment insurance increased to 5,978 for the week ending June 6, 2009, when compared to the previous week’s total of 5,753. Initial claims were above the comparable week ending June 7, 2008, figure of 3,904.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 5,283 from the previous week’s average of 5,172.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed increased to 54,859 for the week ending June 6, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 52,411. NAICS code 321 for Wood Product Manufacturing had the largest increase in continued claims for the week ending June 6, 2009. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending June 7, 2008, figure of 21,872.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 52,038 from the previous week’s average of 50,486.
The third chart in the June 12, 2009, Unemployment Insurance Claims press release is for all regular unemployment insurance claimants who have received at least one check during the reference month in Louisiana. These claimants increased by 1,155 from 46,199 in April 2009 to 47,354 in May 2009.
