Initial claims for unemployment insurance decreased to 4,478 for the week ending April 25, 2009, when compared to the previous week’s total of 5,448. Initial claims were above the comparable week ending April 26, 2008, figure of 2,581.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 4,954 from the previous week’s average of 4,976.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed increased to 47,936 for the week ending April 25, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 47,377. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending April 26, 2008 figure of 20,563.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 46,481 from the previous week’s average of 45,321.
