Initial claims for unemployment insurance increased to 4,563 for the week ending March 28,2009, compared to the previous week’s total of 4,414. Initial claims were above the comparable week ending March 29, 2008, figure of 2,441.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 4,509 from the previous week’s average of 4,243.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed increased to 43,295 for the week ending March 28, 2009, from the previous week’s total of 42,887. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending March 29, 2008, figure of 20,540.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 42,037 from the previous week's average of 41,252.
