Houma Area Records Second Straight Month with Nationís Lowest Unemployment Rate

HOUMA Ė With a February unemployment rate of 3.5 percent, Houma had the lowest rate of the nationís 372 metropolitan statistical areas according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report. Houmaís January rate of 3.7 percent also was the nationís lowest.

Only 20 MSAs in February recorded rates below 5 percent, with 14 areas recording rates of at least 15 percent.

In Louisiana, unadjusted unemployment rates held steady or improved from January to February for every metropolitan statistical area of the state, with every MSA reporting job gains.
