La. Workforce Commission to Offer Orientation Sessions for Pilgrimís Pride Employees

FARMERVILLE Ė The Louisiana Workforce Commission will conduct orientation sessions next week to assist the nearly 1,300 people who will be laid off when Pilgrimís Pride closes its processing plant in Farmerville and three other facilities in the area. The sessions are being scheduled based on the workersí shifts and will all take place at the Pilgrimís Pride processing plant at 6648 Highway 15 North in Farmerville.

Sessions will be held in the processing plantís training room on Monday, March 16, for shift workers of the Cook and Fresh plants. The first sessions begin at 7 a.m. and last an hour and a half, with additional sessions at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, March 17, three sessions will be held at the Fresh Plant, with the first session beginning at 9 a.m. and additional sessions at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Evening sessions will be held at the Cook Plant, with the first session beginning at 4:30 pm and additional sessions at 6:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Five sessions will be held during the evening of Wednesday, March 18, at the Fresh Plant, with the first session beginning at 10 p.m., and additional sessions at 12:30 a.m., 2:30 a.m., 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.

Orientation sessions are designed to inform affected employees about the services available to them through the LWCís Rapid Response Unit.

In addition to the orientation sessions, a transition center is scheduled to open at the Farmerville site on Tuesday, March 24. Services to be provided at the transition center include job placement assistance, job counseling, job search workshops, labor market information, rťsumť preparation assistance, interview preparation, online job search assistance, veteransí assistance information, occupational retraining, trade adjustment assistance, debt counseling, out-of-area job search assistance, relocation assistance, on-the-job training, unemployment insurance and other supportive services as needed.

Workforce Commission services are offered at no cost to the employer or participating employees.
