La. Workforce Commission Upgrades Internet Claims System for Unemployment Benefits
Web site revamp makes system easier to use, increases speed of claims filing

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Workforce Commission today announced that it has made significant upgrades to its Internet site to make it easier for people to submit claims for unemployment insurance.

The changes make the site easier to use and will help the LWC collect more accurate information. That will shorten the time it takes to validate claims and begin payments, said Marianne Sullivan, director of the Office of Unemployment Insurance Administration.

“One of our top priorities for claimants is to make the filing process as efficient as possible so that those who qualify for benefits receive the right amount as soon as possible,” Sullivan said. “Another priority is to help people get back to work as soon as possible and we know that many people need these payments to afford to go out on interviews and compete for jobs."

The system has more prompts and guides to help people fill out each piece of required information. Also, the amount of information requested on each screen has been reduced. If an answer is entered in the wrong format or a question is overlooked, the user will be alerted to fix the error before being able to move to the next screen.

Users also can return to earlier screens to make changes without losing the data they’ve already entered. Some personal and employer data is filled in automatically, eliminating the need to have to retype the same information multiple times.

The upgrades also gather additional information about reasons for separation to speed up eligibility determinations.
