La. Workforce Commission to Provide Services to IP Pineville Employees

PINEVILLE – The Louisiana Workforce Commission’s Rapid Response Team is in Pineville to assist the workers affected by the temporary shutdown of International Paper’s facility.

IP’s Pineville Mill shut down its operations on Saturday, Jan. 24, for the second time in one month, this time resulting in a six-week layoff for 180 of its employees.

“Our focus in Pineville is to monitor the situation to make sure we’re prepared to offer the appropriate services for employees when those services are needed,” LWC Director of Workforce Development Stacy Bonnaffons said.

The Rapid Response Team will hold three sessions tomorrow to gather information from affected employees to get them entered into the unemployment insurance system and expedite claims filing. Taking paper claims for those impacted by large layoffs assists those employees and reduces the burden on phone and Internet claims filing systems.
