Louisiana Workforce Commission Opens New Claims Lines
Numbers Aim to Ease Burden on Those Seeking Unemployment Benefits

BATON ROUGE, La. (Sept. 10, 2008) - The Louisiana Workforce Commission today announced the addition of another toll-free phone number for those filing new claims for unemployment benefits to provide better service to its customers. Those filing new claims can now call either of two numbers: 1-866-259-6345 or 1-800-957-1605.

For those wishing to continue previous claimed weekly benefits, LWC officials recommend they call any of the Easy Call numbers or submit their requests via the Web at www.laworks.net.

People who submitted continuing claims for the weeks ending Aug. 30 and Sept. 6 do not need to call the LWC to check on the status of those claims. They will be processed automatically.

People who have issues with their claims should call the commissionís usual toll-free line, 1-866-783-5567, to have them resolved.

The best way to file claims continues to be the LWC Web site at www.laworks.net.

All people filing claims are urged to be patient. The current volume of calls is unprecedented.

Additional information will be announced at a news conference on Thursday, Sept. 11, at

2:30 p.m. at the GOHSEP headquarters on Independence Blvd.
