SPRINGHILL – Many of the area’s leading businesses and education providers are scheduled to participate in the Job Fair & Educational Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at the Community Activities Center at 301 W. Church St.
The event is targeted to the Georgia-Pacific workers who were laid off when the company closed its Springhill facility in January but is also open to the general public. It is co-sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Labor’s Rapid Response team, North Webster Chamber of Commerce and the Coordinating & Development Corp.
“Upon our initial deployment to Springhill in January, Mayor Carroll Breaux and community stakeholders all assisted in coordinating an effective response to this dislocation,” said Rapid Response Coordinator Greg A. Anders.
Businesses scheduled to participate in the job fair and expo include: Deltic Timber, CMC Steel Arkansas, Flakeboard, Weyerhaeuser and Saint-Gobain Containers. Education providers will include: Bossier Parish Community College, Northwest Louisiana Technical College, Diesel Driving Academy and Ayers Institute.
The Rapid Response team will conduct an orientation session at 10 a.m. during the job fair and expo for the benefit of any Georgia-Pacific workers who missed the original sessions which were conducted in January. The orientation is intended to inform the affected workers of a variety of services available to them through Rapid Response.
