Labor Department Rapid Response unit available to assist workers affected by layoffs

MINDEN – The Louisiana Department of Labor’s Rapid Response unit has a number of re-employment and job counseling services to offer workers recently laid off from Fibrebond, Corp., in Minden.

Fibrebond, a Minden-based facility which specializes in concrete products and site construction services, laid off 80 employees last week. The layoffs represent about 15 percent of the Minden office workforce.

The Rapid Response unit provides seminars to show affected employees how to access a variety of valuable opportunities, including: re-employment, retraining and readjustment services, along with other assistance.

Among the services the Rapid Response unit can provide, includes: employee job placement assistance, job counseling, job search workshops, labor market information, résumé preparation assistance, interviewing techniques, computerized job search assistance, veterans assistance information, occupational retraining, trade adjustment assistance, debt counseling, out-of-area job search assistance, relocation assistance, on-the-job training, unemployment insurance and other supportive services as needed.

Rapid Response services are offered at no cost to the employer or the participating employees. Individual services, such as crisis counseling, are available as needed.
