Training for hospitality careers focus of Hospitality Career Day

BATON ROUGE Jobseekers interested in one of the more than 12,000 hospitality jobs and free job training available in Baton Rouge and New Orleans are urged to attend Hospitality Career Day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Mall at Cortana

Jobseekers can learn about a free eight-week training course called Hospitality Professional that will provide exposure and training to all areas of hotel employment. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a positive attitude, and enjoy helping others. Classes start March 1 and will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. weekdays. All books, supplies, uniforms and lunch will be provided. Seating is limited.

Participants will gain valuable training and experience through internships offered in conjunction with the training. Areas of training include: customer service, front desk management, reservations, computers (keyboard, MS Word, MS Excel and familiarity with property management systems), OSHA safety and ServSafe certification.

Hospitality Career Day is co-sponsored by LSU Continuing Education, Louisiana Restaurant Association, Job Corps, Louisiana Department of Labor, The University of New Orleans and Lester E. Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism.
