BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending September 5, 2020 rose to 24,566 from the week ending August 29, 2020 total of 16,191. For a comparison, during the week ending September 7, 2019, 1,683 initial claims were filed.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 16,845 from the previous week’s average of 13,487.
The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending September 5, 2020 increased to 256,184 from the week ending August 29, 2020 total of 249,610. The continued claims were above the comparable figure of 15,215 for the week ending September 7, 2019.
The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 252,896 from the previous week’s average of 263,843.
