Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending Feb. 10

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Feb. 10, 2018 dropped to 2,160 from the previous week’s total of 2,291. For a comparison, during the week ending Feb. 11, 2017, 2,230 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,164 from the previous week’s average of 2,360.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending Feb. 10, 2018 decreased to 18,566 from the previous week’s total of 19,205. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 21,123 for the week ending Feb. 11, 2017.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 19,004 from the previous week’s average of 19,343.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) is committed to providing local resources to businesses across the state, so that they have access to a variety of options to recruit the best available talent. On Friday, February 23, the St. Tammany Business and Career Solutions Center will host a recruiting event for Schneider Transportation and Logistics from 9 a.m. to noon. Schneider Transportation will be interviewing for Over-the-Road (OTR), Ranker and Team drivers.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) has countless tools both in person and online to help claimants file and process their claims. This is in addition to the agency’s 59 local offices statewide, job fairs, training programs, apprenticeship opportunities and numerous other services.

Updates to the LWC’s unemployment information processing system are still being implemented. As a result, the following data are not currently available: the break-out of interstate claims, Louisiana unemployment insurance claimants' parish of residence and unemployment insurance claims by industry.
