BATON ROUGE Ė The Louisiana Workforce Commissionís (LWC) Rapid Response staff team responded to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) issued by Samís Club on Jan. 11 for the closure of its Cortana location.
Rapid Response offers intervention placement services to workers impacted by closings or layoffs. Services include job search, resume writing, interview techniques and access to training opportunity through American Job Centers. Rapid Response services are available to all individuals impacted by a layoff or closure regardless of the WARN requirement.
In addition to Rapid Response employees, Samís Club representatives worked to assist affected workers in their placement efforts and plan to continue their assistance with other entities in the future.
Companies are required to file WARNs under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act if there is a full plant closure resulting in 50 or more employees losing their jobs in any 30-day period or if there is a mass layoff during any 30-day period. A layoff is considered a mass layoff if it is more than 500 employees or if it is between 50 and 499 employees and comprises 33 percent or more of the active workforce at that particular site.
