BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Sept. 9, 2017 decreased to 2,375 from the previous week’s total of 2,915. For the comparable week a year ago, ending Sept. 10, 2016, 2,394 initial claims were filed.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,555 from the previous week’s average of 2,643.
The continued unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Sept. 9, 2017 decreased to 20,721 from the previous week’s total of 20,810. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 28,220 for the week ending Sept. 10, 2016.
The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 21,296 from the previous week’s average of 21,718.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) helps host a variety of job fairs and career expositions so that job-seekers across multiple industries have equal opportunities at acquiring family-sustaining careers. On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, Gilchrist Construction hosted a hiring event at the Ouachita Business and Career Solutions Center (BCSC) in Monroe, La. BCSC employee Bedie Lewis helped Gilchrist Construction seek out potential drivers, service technicians and equipment operators for the company at the hiring event.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) has countless tools both in person and online to help claimants file and process their claims. This is in addition to the agency’s 59 local offices statewide, job fairs, training programs, apprenticeship opportunities and numerous other services.
Updates to the LWC’s unemployment information processing system are still being implemented. As a result, the following data are not currently available: the break-out of interstate claims, Louisiana unemployment insurance claimants' parish of residence, unemployment insurance claims by industry and UI claimants who have received at least one check during the reference month in Louisiana.
