BATON ROUGE – Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Nov. 26, 2016 decreased to 2,029 from the previous week’s total of 3,068. For the comparable week a year ago, ending Nov. 28, 2015, 2,554 initial claims were filed.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,547 from the previous week’s average of 2,664.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Nov. 26, 2016 decreased to 22,984 from the previous week’s total of 23,066. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable figure of 23,143 for the week ending Nov. 28, 2015.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 23,171 from the previous week’s average of 23,371.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission has countless tools to connect job-seekers to employers from in-person assistance through the agency’s 59 local offices statewide, job fairs, training programs, apprenticeship opportunities and so much more.
The LWC encourages all job-seekers to register with the agency’s HiRE (Helping Individuals Reach Employment) re-employment portal, where more than 300 individuals found employment during the month of November.
Updates to the LWC’s unemployment information processing system are still being implemented. As a result, the following data are not currently available: the break-out of interstate claims, Louisiana unemployment insurance claimants' parish of residence, unemployment insurance claims by industry and UI claimants who have received at least one check during the reference month in Louisiana.
