Louisiana’s unemployment rate unchanged in September

BATON ROUGE – The state’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.7 percent in September according to not-seasonally-adjusted data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Not-seasonally-adjusted data represent a snapshot of employment but are not adjusted for seasonal factors. The LWC released seasonally-adjusted data for the state on October 21.

Not-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rates for Louisiana’s MSAs in September were as follows:

• Alexandria: 7.0 percent, unchanged from August and up from 6.2 percent in September 2015;

• Baton Rouge: 6.0 percent, up from 5.7 percent in August and up from 5.1 percent in September 2015;

• Hammond: 7.6 percent, up from 7.5 percent in August and up from 6.8 percent in September 2015;

• Houma: 7.1 percent, up from 7.0 percent in August and up from 5.6 percent in September 2015;

• Lafayette: 7.6 percent, unchanged from August and up from 6.3 percent in September 2015;

• Lake Charles: 5.5 percent, up from 5.4 percent in August and up from 5.2 percent in September 2015;

• Monroe: 6.6 percent, down from 6.7 percent in August and up from 6.3 percent in September 2015;

• New Orleans: 6.2 percent, unchanged from August and up from 5.8 percent in September 2015;

• Shreveport: 7.1 percent, unchanged from August and up from 6.6 percent in September 2015.
