BATON ROUGE – Oklahoma-based Helmerich & Payne International Drilling Co. announced this week the closure of H&P Rig 105 in the Gulf of Mexico due to a contract cancelation.
H&P anticipates approximately 40 to 50 employees working offshore will lose their jobs when the facility closes.
The employer will assist in delivering information regarding unemployment insurance benefits and options for dislocated workers to those affected by the closure.
The notice was issued voluntarily and does not technically constitute a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) as the employer anticipates the layoff will be fewer than 50 employees.
About WARN Notices
Companies are required to file WARNs under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act if there is a full plant closure resulting in 50 or more employees losing their jobs in any 30-day period or if there is a mass layoff during any 30-day period. A layoff is considered a mass layoff if it is more than 500 employees or if it is between 50 and 499 employees and comprises 33 percent or more of the active workforce at that particular site.
