Initial unemployment insurance claims for week ending Nov. 14

BATON ROUGE – Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Nov. 14, 2015 increased to 3,196 from the previous week’s total of 1,807. For the comparable week a year ago, ending Nov. 15, 2014, 2,377 initial claims were filed.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission’s unemployment information processing system was offline Nov. 4-7 which contributed to the over-the-week decrease of 632 initial claims for the week ending Nov. 7, 2015. This system unavailability also resulted in a larger than usual over-the-week increase in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 14, 2015 as those initial claimants who were unable to file the previous week did so in the week ending Nov. 14.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 2,486 from the previous week’s average of 2,272.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Nov. 14, 2015 decreased to 19,595 from the previous week’s total of 22,428. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable figure of 19,251 for the week ending Nov. 15, 2014.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 21,863 from the previous week’s average of 22,670.

The new unemployment information processing system is still being implemented and until full implementation is completed the following data will not be available; break-out of interstate claims, Louisiana unemployment insurance claimant’s parish of residence and unemployment insurance claims by industry.
