Employment and wages available for first quarter of 2015

BATON ROUGE — Data on Louisiana’s employment and wages for the first quarter of 2015 are now available on the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s website, www.laworks.net.

These data cover employment and total wages by North American Industry Classification System sectors and sub-sectors for the state and by NAICS sectors for all 64 parishes. The information comes from quarterly tax reports submitted by all employers subject to the Louisiana Employment Security Law and from supplemental reports containing parish data submitted by employers with multiple locations. Information is available on statewide, regional, metropolitan statistical areas and parish levels.

Employers whose data are included are those who pay unemployment insurance taxes and report filled jobs – whether full or part-time, temporary or permanent – by place of work.

According to the data, Louisiana’s average covered employment in the first quarter of 2015 totaled 1,922,767 a decrease of 1.6 percent from the fourth-quarter 2014 total of 1,954,669. There was a gain in employment from the comparable period a year ago, as employment rose 1.4 percent from the first-quarter 2014 total of 1,896,283. The average weekly wage for the first quarter of 2015 was $885.

Employers exploring new operating sites can use the data to compare employment and average weekly wages paid by industry in potential locations. Market researchers use the data for market and consumer analysis. Public and private organizations use the data in the administration and evaluation of manpower programs and policies.
