Yesterday, the Center for Planning Excellence cited research that claimed the Louisiana Workforce Commission failed to spend $20 million in Workforce Investment Act funding.
WIA funding is allocated to Louisiana from the U.S. Department of Labor each year and is spent within three years. Local Workforce Investment Boards are empowered to spend that money over a two-year period and any funds left over are returned to the LWC to be redistributed or re-purposed if necessary.
All WIA funding received by the LWC is spent within these three-year periods. This administration has never returned any adult, youth or dislocated worker funding to the federal government.
