Louisiana unemployment insurance claims report Oct. 17, 2014

BATON ROUGE – Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Oct. 11, 2014, increased to 2,473 from the previous week’s total of 2,081. The week ending Oct. 11, 2014 marked the start of a new quarter for new claims, when some claimants regain their eligibility for benefits, typically resulting in an increase in initial claims. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending Oct. 12, 2013, figure of 2,513.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 2,127 from the previous week’s average of 2,027.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Oct. 11, 2014, decreased to 18,947 from the previous week’s total of 19,214. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending Oct. 12, 2013, figure of 22,760.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 19,450 from the previous week’s average of 19,835.
