BATON ROUGE – Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Jan. 4, 2014, increased to 2,242 from the previous week’s total of 1,721. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending Jan. 5, 2013, figure of 3,253.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,320 from the previous week’s average of 2,549.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Jan. 4, 2014, increased to 24,443 from the previous week’s total of 23,648. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending Jan. 5, 2013, figure of 32,001.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 24,092 from the previous week’s average of 24,021.
The total number of people who filed a claim for regular unemployment insurance in Louisiana, and received at least one check during the reference month, increased to 21,431 in December 2013, up 1,753 from 19,678 in November 2013.
