BATON ROUGE – Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Oct. 5, 2013, increased to 2,456 from the previous week’s total of 2,307. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending Oct. 6, 2012, figure of 3,050.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 2,480 from the previous week’s average of 2,414.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Oct. 5, 2013, decreased to 23,293 from the previous week’s total of 23,551. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending Oct. 6, 2012, figure of 31,541.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 23,693 from the previous week’s average of 23,900.
The total number of people who filed a claim for regular unemployment insurance in Louisiana, and received at least one check during the reference month, decreased to 21,716 in September 2013, down 2,122 from 23,838 in August 2013.
