AT&T will conduct recruiting fairs the next two Mondays in Baton Rouge as the company seeks to hire permanent wire technicians and temporary outside plant technicians.
The recruiting fairs will be held June 17 and 24 at the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s Baton Rouge Business and Career Solutions Center, 1991 Wooddale Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, have a non-negligent driving record and be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Potential job seekers must not weigh more than 275 pounds due to safety restrictions. Applicants will be required to pass a background check, employment history investigation and drug screening. Applicants should have the ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors and complete on-the-job and/or classroom training as required to remain on the job.
AT&T wire technicians are required to educate customers on service features and functionality, verify all services are working correctly, install and rearrange inside wires, use hand tools, sometimes work in small or confined spaces or aloft, climb poles and generally work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
Some of the job duties for outside plant technicians include interacting professionally with customers and colleagues, working with heavy duty power equipment, receiving work assignments through computer access terminals, operating power equipment such as compressors and hydraulic aerial lifts, performing construction such as digging holes and placing poles, distinguishing cable colors, and using test equipment to check for toxic or explosive gas in manholes.
To apply for these positions, candidates can go to connect.att.jobs/baton-rouge and enter “454465” for wire technician or “454466” for outside plant technician. AT&T requires testing for this position, and study guides are available on the company’s website.
AT&T offers paid training, a wide range of career possibilities, competitive wages, a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and paid vacations, along with company vehicles and tools.
