New workplace safety task force to hold first meeting Wednesday
Goal is to promote workplace safety in Louisiana

The Louisiana Workforce Commission has formed a workplace safety task force designed to further strengthen the state’s safety culture. The task force will hold its first meeting Wednesday, March 6, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Plaza Hearing Room at the Louisiana Department of Insurance, 1702 N. 3rd St., Baton Rouge.

The meeting is open to the public.

Led by LWC’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Administration, the 16-member task force brings together some of the state’s leading workplace safety experts. The multi-disciplined volunteer group is comprised of representatives from business and industry, state and local government, as well as professionals in law, medicine, insurance and academia.

The task force will focus on ways employers can make Louisiana workplaces safer, prevent and reduce accidents on the job, and develop awareness and initiatives to prevent injuries and fatalities among workers in Louisiana.

“With the tremendous growth Louisiana’s workforce is poised to experience, this task force will help guide the LWC’s efforts to help employers maintain safe workplaces,” said Curt Eysink, executive director of the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

The task force will work on short- and long-term initiatives to help employers address preventable injuries and fatalities and to offer education and training opportunities.

Interested employers, claims professionals, insurance adjusters, self-insurers, third-party administrators, attorneys, vocational rehabilitation providers, doctors, safety and risk managers, human resource professionals and anyone whose work involves workplace safety is welcome to attend the task force’s meetings, which are free and will be open to the public.
