Employers encouraged to register early

Staff of the Louisiana Workforce Commission will address Lafourche, Terrebonne and Assumption area employers at a seminar focusing on the basics of unemployment insurance Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The event, sponsored by the Lafourche Chamber of Commerce and LWC, is free of charge and will be held at the Lafourche Parish Government’s Mathews Government Complex, 4876 Highway 1, Mathews.

The seminar, called Employers Take Charge, will cover the basics of unemployment insurance, employee eligibility, tips on lowering a company’s unemployment insurance tax rate, steps to lower separation costs, along with the appeals and the adjudication process. Employers are encouraged to pre-register by Monday, Feb. 18, as space is limited.

Stephen Harris, LWC employer outreach liaison, will conduct the seminar, which will include a question and answer segment along with an opportunity to discuss specific business situations.

For more information about the seminar or to register, contact LWC Business Services Representative Cheri Blanchard at 985-876-8946, or at cblanchard1@lwc.la.gov. Or, go to www.lafourchechamber.com.
